About the event
Experience the magic of bioluminescence on a sunset-to-night kayaking adventure! Paddle through the Indian River Lagoon as the water lights up with glowing blue sparkles around every stroke.
What to Expect
We'll launch from Kiwanis Island Park just before sunset, paddle through the mangrove-lined shores as dusk settles, and watch as the water comes alive with bioluminescent dinoflagellates. Every paddle dip and splash creates trails of glowing blue light — an unforgettable experience!
- Difficulty: Beginner-friendly — calm, protected lagoon waters
- Paddle time: ~1.5–2 hours on the water
- Duration: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (sunset paddle into night)
What to Bring
- Kayak, canoe, or paddle board + life vest (required)
- Dark-colored clothing (less reflection on the water)
- Water in a closed container
- Dry bag for phone/keys
- Bug spray
- Camera (glowing water shots are amazing!)
Tips for Best Experience
- New moon = darkest skies = brightest bioluminescence (we picked the date accordingly)
- Avoid flashlights and white lights — red light preserves night vision
- No swimming — we stay in our boats to protect the fragile ecosystem
