About the event
Join us for an unforgettable overnight camping adventure in the heart of the Everglades at Flamingo Campground! We'll spend two days exploring the wild beauty of South Florida's crocodile country — from hiking trails and wildlife spotting to kayaking through mangrove estuaries.
What to Expect
- Day 1 (Aug 1): Arrive at 9 AM, set up camp, then hit the trails. We'll explore the Everglades National Park backcountry, keep an eye out for American crocodiles, manatees, and roseate spoonbills, and finish the day with a sunset paddle or a ranger-led program.
- Overnight: Camp under the stars at Flamingo Campground — tent sites available with restrooms, picnic tables, and nearby marina amenities.
- Day 2 (Aug 2): Morning hike or canoe rental, pack up camp, and depart by 7 PM.
What to Bring
- Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad
- Camp stove or portable grill (fire rings available)
- Food, water, and snacks (limited supplies at Flamingo)
- Insect repellent (essential!)
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
- Kayak or canoe (rentals available at Flamingo Marina)
- Binoculars and camera
- Rain gear (afternoon storms are common)
- Reusable water bottles
Weather policy: Florida summer afternoons bring frequent thunderstorms. We'll adjust the schedule as needed — bring rain gear and a positive attitude!
Location: Flamingo Campground, 1 Flamingo Lodge Hwy, Homestead, FL 33034 (38 miles inside Everglades National Park — park entrance fee applies).
